Step Forward
The Step Forward and Dance course is for adults aged 18 plus. It is an adult learning programme and is designed to be delivered in communities and Further Education establishments across the UK. The activity programmes are a useful vehicle which can be used to break down barriers, build self-esteem, divert from anti-social activity and integrate communities. The valuable contribution positive engagement makes to the development of skills helps people to take responsibility for their actions and develop positive relationships with others.
Health and physical well-being needs are met through engaging dynamic forms of exercise, enabling participants to have fun, improve physical fitness and raise self-esteem. Participants are taught the elements of dance disciplines not only to increase skills and knowledge of dance but also to encourage the development of the psychology and physiology relevant to embracing physical exercise as part of everyday activity. Dance brings people together celebrating the uniqueness and achievements of each individual. When individuals’ are engaged in positive activities, needs in the community are also being met. This provides a beneficial impact upon the participants such as increased community cohesion, resulting in a reduction of isolation and improved resilience.
